VersaTerm and VersaTerm Pro
Robust communications applications with a special emphasis on solutions for TCP/IP enviroments.

The TCP/IP client suite focuses on exchanging data with the exploding Internet community by providing a smoothly integrated graphical interface for accessing vital services like main and news.

Essential functions like terminal emulations and file transfers are built upon a ten year tradition of design excellence and dependable performance.

Unique comunications capabilities

Macros Useful macros can be created to automate logging into computers, and other redundant tasks. Macros can be created automatically using a feature that records each step you perform and saves those steps as a macro.

File Transfer Protocol Transfer files between your Macintosh and a variety of other computers with the following commonly used protocols: FTP, Kermit, Zmodem, Ymodem and Xmodem.

Programmable Keys Function keys, shifted function keys and others, totaling 58 keys, can easly be set up for your custom application. The function keys can either be used on your extended keyboard or from an on-screen key palette which is very handy for Powerbook users.

Icon Palettes are used in several areas of the program. A palette of icons allows you to jump between each of your host sessions with ease. In VersaTerm-Link the palette gives quick access to the TCP/IP clients.

VersaTerm PRO

Convenience features VersaTerm products come with auto installation instructions. Dialogs save common host configurations for repetitive use. Modem settings are provided. An internal text editor helps with message composition, reading text files and other small editing tasks.

TCP/IP Networked computers are the most efficient computer configuration from the standpoint of phisycal considerations, costs and speed. The TCP/IP suite of protocols provides the standard for exchanging data between the many different operating systems that exist today in networked environments. VersaTerm products support the TCP/IP standard and provide clients to allow your Macintosh to function in this networked world of heterogeneous computers. Additionally our SLIP extension allows you the benefits og network TCP/IP when you connect as a single computer from a remote location via modem.

Clients TCP/IP

SLIP This extention to MacTCP makes it possible for any Macintosh, anywhere, to use TCP/IP by dialing (or directly connecting) into an appropriate SLIP server. Van Jacobson header compression (CSLIP) makes this process even faster.

Telnet This CommToolbox connection tool provides terminal access across TCP/IP networks, including Ethernet, LocalTalk (via router) or SLIP, to TCP/IP hosts from many vendors.

FTP In client mode, this CommToolbox tool provides fast file transfers to and from FTP sites on TCP/IP networks. In server mode your Macintosh becomes an FTP server operating in the background to make information available to other network Macintoshes.

VersaTerm - Link Combines the most commonly used Internet clients in a single integrated interface.

Terminal emulations

The VersaTerm products provide robust industry standard terminal emulations to help you access host computers. You can make serial (RS232) connections, either directly or by modem, from single workstations; or connect via AppleTalk and Ethernet if your computers are networked. There are still many instances where a DEC VT100 text terminal, the most common text emulation, is the only means to access certain hosts across the Internet.

VersaTerm e VersaTerm-PRO are robust communications applications with a special emphasis on solutions for TCP/IP environments.

VersaTerm Link
VersaTerm-Link, the centerpiece application of each of the products, organizes your mail, news, directory and file transfer functions in a smoothly integrated graphical interface. The ability to manage these services from a single application is especially appealing to members of the Internet community.

• Read your mail, compose replies and create new mail messages all with or without a network connection. When utilizing dial-up via SLIP, a one-step command can automatically establish connection, send your mail, check for new mail and disconnect. A point and click address book makes mail creation quick and erroe free.
• Subscribe to your favorite news groups, quickly connect and read items of interest. A unque feature allows you to download selected news items, or an entire group to your Macintosh. Read news from your local disk, even if there is no active network connection. Create postings as easily as you create mail.
• Locate the mail addresses and information for other Internet members using three directory clients.
• Transfer files from anywhere in the world with the same ease as from your local Macintosh. Common host configurations are saved for convenient repetitive use.
• Connect as a TTY terminal to access remote text database. A simple scripting feature automates common requests like current local weather information.
Additional geatures like a built-in spelling checker, scratchpad text editor, and automatic compression/decompression via Aladin's StuffIt enhance VersaTerm-Link's text handling capabilities.

The VersaTerm SLIP extension gives you means to transport your TCP/IP data over a simple modem connection while VersaTerm-Link automates the connection/disconnection process.
